This overture was written for the New York Staff Band to perform at The Salvation Army International Millennial Congress held in Atlanta, George. The music is based on two melodies which are associated with a song written by the founder of The Salvation Army — William Booth. The song is “Thou Christ of burning, cleansing flame” and the two tunes which are used are Tucker and Send the Fire — a mix of old and new. The music makes considerable demands on the instrumentalists and concludes with a triumphant ending.
