At the Master's Feet (Erik Leidzen)
At the Master’s Feet
(American Band Journal No. 36)
Erik Leidzén
In a 1961 letter to Dr. Thomas Rive of New Zealand, Leidzén wrote the following:
It is now some years ago that I at a musicamp first heard the chorus “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”. It made a profound impression on me, and I decided then and there to use it sometime without any preliminaries, getting to the point right away, according to my motto: make the message clear and plain. Endeavoring to emphasize certain phrases I have repeated them. And it must be the listener’s task to supply the words each time as we sit with Mary in Bethany choosing “the better part”, and praying: Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on me! There comes a renewed exhortation to turn the eyes upon The Master and we are reminded of the pains he had to suffer, but our supplication continues: Break Thou the Bread of Life, dear lord to me. For, as Peter said: “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” And we reiterate: break me, melt me, mold me, fill me.
Published in the ABJ of October 1957 (#36), this devotional classic is a profound, compact sermon in sound.
